Phosphates Industry

While concerns about the imminence of “peak phosphates” are sometimes exaggerated, the phosphates industry recognizes that reserves are finite, geographically concentrated, and declining in quality. That’s why it’s vital to stretch resources as far as possible while guarding against adverse environmental impacts within the feed and fertilizer supply chain. To this end, the Sustainable Phosphorus Alliance has adopted a set of sector goals:

  • Improve extraction of phosphates from lower-grade ores to help extend reserves.
  • Reduce and reuse wastes all along the feed and fertilizer supply chain.
  • Innovate formulations and practice for fertilizer and feed that improve phosphorus use efficiency.
  • Diversify supplies by recycling food system waste back into fertilizer production.

We support 4R Nutrient Management and precision ag practices. See our YouTube channel for talks that address these sector goals, including our webinar on from wastewater and our talk on the use of phosphites as alternative fertilizers.

The of the Sustainable Phosphorus Alliance invites organizations in the Phosphates Industry to participate in our activities to further the sector goals.
