Novaphos is commercializing its innovative technology for sustainable production of high-quality phosphate fertilizers, Li-ion batteries and more. Our proprietary processes are low-waste, low-cost, proven, and highly scalable. We have worked for over a decade to enable sustainable production of the phosphates we need to feed humanity, make the energy transition, and secure our critical supply chains. Novaphos is changing how the world makes phosphates.
The phosphate industry uses old, unstainable technology that is rapidly depleting our limited phosphate resources while creating mountains of a noxious waste: phospho-gypsum. Depleted reserves and environmental obstacles to permitting have caused the industry to shrink in much of the world, including the U.S., which has lost almost 40% of our phosphate capacity and become a net importer from countries such as China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco. Lack of innovation in phosphate production has left the world vulnerable to major supply disruptions. Despite these facts, embracing technology change in such an established industry can be a challenge.
Novaphos can use low-quality phosphate inputs, even mine tailings that are discarded by existing producers. We can multiply the world’s effective phosphate resource and enable new regional phosphate production, including in the U.S. The Novaphos process generates no large-scale wastes and produces a high-quality, high-value phosphoric acid at lower cost. High-quality phosphoric acid is just what we need to make environmentally friendly liquid fertilizers and Li-ion batteries. The Novaphos process even produces a solid calcium silicate co-product that can replace cement used in concrete.
Our technology is proven and ready for commercialization, with hundreds of operating hours in multiple pilot plant configurations and extensive reviews by third parties like Hatch Engineering. We have successfully tested samples of phosphate raw materials from numerous mines across five continents in our Florida-based pilot plant and lab. We have already secured product offtake for our first plant and have a robust and expanding portfolio of US and international patents.
Novaphos is seeking to create and realize value from its technologies by building a small commercial plant to further demonstrate the value of the technology and deepening its relationships with major phosphate players that may be interested in licensing, joint-venturing or ultimately acquiring the Novaphos technology.
